The first step! Set up a meeting with Dan to get a clear vision of what you want and what he thinks you need.
No money is needed upfront! Dan will purchase the van, build it out and call you when it’s done.
Once your van is finished, Dan will call you with a price. If you like the van, you can buy it. If you don’t, he will sell it to another adventurous soul to enjoy.
These cabinets follow our “simple is best” philosophy with a practical and unbreakable 90 degree latch. The cabinet doors are held open by the metal handle attached to a magnet mounted to the ceiling. This makes a mechanical arm (prone to breaking over time) obsolete.
The idea to insulate with granulated cork came from a van life couple in England. This method is appealing because it is insusceptible to mold or mildew, which is ideal in a small space. The other allure of granulated cork is that it fits into paneling built into the framework of the van. Not only does this method save you about 3” of space on both sides, but also provides easy access to wires and pipes should something need to be fixed. The simple design allows you to remove the paneling and vacuum out the cork, without deconstructing the whole van.

The main attraction of this flooring is the durability. As a boater who is in and out of his van constantly, Dan wanted a floor that would hold up against the dirt and grime at the takeouts of most rivers. The goal is to build with materials that will outlast the engine and still look good after 10 years.
Instead of dumping your waste, aerobic bacteria consume it. Peat moss creates a home for the “bugs” to survive in and a fan blowing fresh oxygen into the system keeps them thriving. After using the toilet, simply hand crank the new waste into the peat moss and let the bugs do their job. After almost a year, Dan has never needed to dump his toilet.
As a weekend warrior and avid nordic skier, Dan needed a system that would allow him to park the van for a few days a week in the cold temps. A webasto heater and 40 watt light bulb prevents the 42 gallon fresh water tank from freezing in the wintertime. In the cabin the heater is set to 55 degrees. In the back, within the cabinet built a

A webasto heater and 40 watt light bulb prevents the 42 gallon fresh water tank from freezing in the wintertime. In the cabin the heater is set to 55 degrees. In the back, within the cabinet built around the tank, pump, heater and plumbing is a light bulb on a switch. The light produces enough heat in the tiny space to keep everything from freezing. An indoor/outdoor thermometer in the cabinet allows for easy observation from within the cabin.

Aluminess racks to hold bikes, skis, kayaks, rafts, coolers and two rocket boxes
After using Aluminess (the Cadillac of racks, as Dan says) we decided to switch to Camel Roof Racks. The owner, Ryan, is a kayaker on the Yough river and has some pretty innovative ideas for redesigning the typical rack system we are used to seeing. Check out all that Ryan is creating by clicking on the link below.
